NACE National News

Dear Members,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of our new executive director.

The selection process was rigorous and comprehensive. In all, more than 160 candidates applied and were reviewed. I know many of you followed along with the updates throughout the past months. As you read on, I know you will share in the excitement for our selection.

The process to get to today consisted of four phases. The first was a review of the strategic plan with the position description, followed by a needs assessment and the appointment of the search task force. The second phase consisted of 18 interviews with key stakeholders including the current board of directors, as well as selected past leaders, and representatives from the membership. The third phase was a confirmation of the specific competencies and leadership characteristics required for a NACE executive director, based on the findings in the previous two phases. The lengthy final phase was the development of recruitment materials, the active solicitation, public announcements, and screening of candidates. The finalists for the position underwent multiple telephone interviews, video interviews, a required video submission, and in-person interviews.

I would like to express our appreciation to the members who participated in the interview process. Much thanks goes to Bloch & Reed Association Advisors, our executive director search consultant. Huge appreciation goes to the search task force members, President-Elect Ed DiAntonio, CPCE, CMP, Gary Baumann, CPCE, Zena Phillips, CPCE, CMP, and Karen Tucker, CPCE for their tireless work.

I am pleased to welcome Lawrence Leonard, CAE, CMP as our new NACE Executive Director.

Lawrence has an extensive background in the events industry as a meeting planner and trade show manager. He was previously the Chief Operating Officer for the Events Industry Council, an umbrella group of more than 32 trade and professional organizations in the meetings, conventions, exhibitions and events industry, including NACE. Read more about Lawrence here.

Lawrence’s start date is Monday, June 18, 2018. His e-mail is lleonard@nace.net. I encourage you to drop him a line to welcome him!

There will be a formal introduction in Palm Springs at the 2018 NACE Experience Conference. Please be sure to register for the conference and make your travel plans if you have not already. You are a part of the vibrant community that is NACE and will not want to miss the 60th anniversary!

Announcements

New Partnership Announced Between Valhalla Tahoe and Blue Sky Events!

Lake Tahoe brides will know more about wedding options at Valhalla Tahoe thanks to a new partnership between Valhalla and Blue Sky Events.  Valhalla’s Grand Hall has been booked mostly through word-of-mouth in the past but a concentrated effort on the part of Blue Sky Events will insure that all potential Tahoe brides are aware of Valhalla’s offerings.

Valhalla, meaning “heavenly place” in Norwegian, is nestled among the pines along Lake Tahoe’s south shore and is a truly romantic setting for weddings. Built in 1924, this historic wood and stone hall includes a wraparound porch, gorgeous lake views and a massive 20-foot tall stone fireplace with walk-in hearth.

Blue Sky Events is an award winning event planning agency that often used the Valhalla site for memory- making events. They have been planning Lake Tahoe weddings for over 15 years and knew the potential Valhalla Tahoe had – if only couples also knew about the place!

“By joining together, we feel we can offer Valhalla Tahoe’s best to all who have a site like this in mind for their special day.” Said Valhalla Executive Director Sharon Romack. “Thanks to Blue Sky’s knowledge and resources, Valhalla will benefit from additional exposure”

“I’ve always had a special spot in my heart for Valhalla, especially since I was married there!”  Added Kerry Hawk, owner and president of Blue Sky Events. “We’re pleased to be able to introduce potential clients to this beautiful location.”

For more information about weddings at Valhalla Tahoe, email weddings@valhallatahoe.com or call 530/314-7723.
